Reverse property-based relationship

Posted on April 16, 2012

Reverse RelationshipOnce again we are sharing a technical feature about Aras Innovator on this blog because we see it as an easy feature to implement and it could be useful for you to have this in order to perform a proper evaluation of this PLM solution and of course to understand the flexibility of the solution.

So today’s presentation explains how you can list in a nice way the result of a reverse query based on a property relationship. You can see on the following image the two kind of relationship you can have in Aras Innovator. The most customisable one is the Relationship throught a relationship type item. But sometime you need to easily implement a (N) to (1) relationship and you can use a property of type Item to do so.

Aras Innovator relationship types

The next image shows you a relationship that exists in the Aras Innovator demo database available on the project portal of the Aras website. This relation allow the user to link a customer to a project. For each project, there is a customer attached.

Property-based relationship example

Our goal is then, from the Customer form to be able to list all the projects related to this customer.

Property-based relationship target

In order to do so, we need first, to create a null relationship in orderb to provide a tab to the customer form. From this tab we need to call the html page that was provided in Innovator 9.3 with the following path :

../Solutions/PLM/scripts/ReverseItemsGrid.html

And you need to provide the following string as parameters:

‘ITName=’+itemTypeName+’&itemID=’+itemID+’&reverseITName=Projects&reversePropertyName=customer’

I present the full customizing in the following video:

Feel free to leave a comment if you have any question or any interest in such customizing, I will show soon how to implement the same reverse relationship with a normal Relationship Type.

Have fun customizing your Aras instance !!

Is it possible to modify the ReverseItemGrid.html to show the non hidden propertys of the Relationship Itemtype? Regards

    • sure (sorry for the late answer) Yes you can definitely change this html script. You need to change both the rendering part when creating the but also the query where select clause should ask for the right properties.
